The Ogun State Police Command recently made an announcement regarding the release of Oladapo Oluwaseyifunmi, a member of the Celestial Church of Christ, Oriyarin Parish, Mowe. This development followed a distressing incident wherein Oladapo, along with another church member named Oluboboye Abiola, was forcefully taken from the church premises by a group of armed individuals.
According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the abduction took place in Oriyarin village, Mowe, with the perpetrators fleeing into the dense forest adjacent to the church. The initial report highlighted the gravity of the situation, indicating that both Oladapo Oluwaseyifunmi and Oluboboye Abiola had been seized by the assailants.
Efforts to secure their release commenced immediately, with a collaborative operation involving law enforcement agencies, local hunters, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and members of the Amotekun security outfit. This joint effort culminated in the successful rescue of Oladapo Oluwaseyifunmi, who was later reunited with his family.
However, amidst the relief of Oladapo’s safe return, there remained a notable absence of information regarding the fate and whereabouts of Oluboboye Abiola. Despite inquiries directed towards the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, regarding the status of the second abductee, there was no response forthcoming, leaving concerned parties in suspense about Abiola’s situation.
This incident underscores the persistent challenges posed by insecurity in certain regions and highlights the importance of coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders in addressing such threats and ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.
