The Federal High Court in Lagos has rendered a verdict against the controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on charges of abusing the Naira.
According to Drivetvnews, Bobrisky faced arraignment on four counts of Naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Abimbola Awogboro delivered the conviction following a thorough examination of the case’s details.
Before his conviction, Bobrisky appealed to the court, expressing unawareness of the law regarding Naira abuse. Despite this, he pleaded guilty to the initial four counts linked to Naira abuse, emphasizing his status as a social media influencer with a substantial following of over five million.
In response, the judge reminded him that ignorance of the law does not excuse one’s actions.
Acknowledging this, Bobrisky earnestly requested a second chance to utilize his platform for educational purposes, promising to produce a video to enlighten his followers about the consequences of spraying money and expressing regret for his actions.
With the conviction issued, Bobrisky faces the possibility of serving a six-month prison term, paying a fine of N50,000, or both, as stipulated in Section 21 (1) of the CBN Act 2007, which outlines penalties for tampering with currency issued by the Bank.
