The Osun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) provided detailed information about a tragic incident that occurred on the Ikire–Ibadan Expressway on April 5, resulting in the loss of two lives. The Acting Sector Commander, Mrs. Medinat Akanbi, shared the grim news on Saturday, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the accident.

According to Akanbi, the accident was caused by a Toyota commercial bus, identified by its registration number DAH 77LG, which lost control while traveling at a high speed along the expressway. This loss of control led to a devastating collision, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving several others injured.

The bus was carrying a total of 17 passengers, comprising 10 females and seven males. In the aftermath of the accident, emergency responders were able to rescue 15 passengers who sustained severe injuries. These injured individuals were swiftly transported to undisclosed hospitals for medical treatment.

Furthermore, Akanbi mentioned that various items recovered from the accident scene were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force stationed in Ikire for further investigation. This collaborative effort aims to ascertain the full extent of the incident and determine any factors that may have contributed to it.

In light of this tragic event, Akanbi emphasized the importance of road safety measures, particularly the need for motorists to use high-quality tires to minimize the risk of accidents. She also urged drivers to adhere to prescribed speed limits and exercise caution while driving on the highways.

As part of the FRSC’s commitment to promoting road safety, Akanbi made it clear that the Command would not hesitate to enforce safety regulations and take appropriate action against any road user found violating these rules. This underscores the organization’s dedication to preventing road accidents and ensuring the safety of all road users.
