The Central Planning Committee responsible for organizing the funeral of renowned Nollywood actor, John Okafor (aka Mr. Ibu), has refuted claims that the family is soliciting funds for the burial. According to Drivetvnews, the funeral is scheduled to take place on June 28, 2024, in Mr. Ibu’s hometown of Amuri, Enugu State.

In a statement released to journalists in Enugu, the Chairman of the burial Committee, Monday Diamond Ani, denounced the claims of the family begging online as “manipulative, malicious, and fabricated.” He emphasized that the Committee has made extensive plans for the funeral, despite the significant expenses incurred during Mr. Ibu’s illness.

Ani expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Government and individuals who have provided support, including accommodations, security personnel, transportation, and funds. He also announced a star-studded tribute performance and novelty match to honor Mr. Ibu.

The event will feature notable artists, including Rudeboy, Flavour, and Odumeje, as well as appearances by prominent actors such as Chief Pete Edochie, Patience Ozokwor, and Mercy Johnson. A documentary showcasing the life and times of John Okafor will also be screened.

The Committee has distanced itself from any online fundraising efforts, warning individuals spreading false information to desist from tarnishing Mr. Ibu’s reputation.
