Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has responded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent victory as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Drivetvnews reported on Sunday that President Tinubu hosted the ECOWAS heads for the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During the session, Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, was re-elected as ECOWAS Chairman. Notably, Tinubu was initially elected to this position in Guinea-Bissau on July 9, 2023.

In a congratulatory message to the President on Sunday, Governor Abiodun expressed that Tinubu’s re-election by his peers underscores the Nigerian President’s leadership prowess. He emphasized that this reaffirmation also reflects the strong trust and confidence ECOWAS member states have in Tinubu’s leadership.

Governor Abiodun highlighted Tinubu’s contributions since his initial election, citing his efforts in laying a robust foundation for sub-regional integration and enhancing security. He commended Tinubu’s diplomatic handling of military coups in three member states, preventing potential crises in the region.

“Under Tinubu’s guidance, ECOWAS has made significant strides in economic integration, regional peace, security promotion, and member-state cooperation,” Abiodun remarked. “His dedication to advancing West African interests was evident in his first term, and we expect his re-appointment to accelerate our progress.”

The Governor praised Tinubu’s visionary leadership and strategic initiatives in addressing regional challenges, particularly the threats to democracy posed by coups in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. Abiodun noted Tinubu’s commitment to dialogue as crucial in averting potential conflicts that could have devastating regional consequences.

He called on all ECOWAS member states to collaborate with President Tinubu in advancing the organization’s objectives and values.
