A 300-level Linguistics student from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), known only as Emmanuel, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen at a private hostel in the area.

On Monday, Comrade Oladele Emmanuel, Vice Chairman of the National Association of Universities Students, urged both the university administration and security forces to thoroughly investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

Emmanuel emphasized that the reason behind the shooting remains unclear. He stated, “The university community must be assured that such a tragic event will be met with the full force of the law and thorough investigative efforts.”

He continued, “The death of Emmanuel is a significant loss not only to his family and friends but to the entire AAUA community. His potential and contributions to our academic environment are irreplaceable. We mourn his untimely death and extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones during this challenging time.”

Emmanuel also called for enhanced security measures on campus and in surrounding areas, including increased patrols, improved lighting, and more accessible emergency services. He urged students and members of the AAUA community to provide any information that could assist in the investigation to the relevant authorities.

“We trust that the authorities will address this incident with urgency and transparency. Emmanuel’s memory deserves our commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice. Let us come together in our grief and resolve to create a safer, more secure environment for everyone at AAUA. We owe it to Emmanuel, his family, and ourselves,” the student union leader added.
