Pastor William Kumuyi, founder of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has clarified why he permitted Muslim clerics to speak from the pulpit during a church conference. According to Drivetvnews, photos showing Muslim clerics wearing caps while speaking from the pulpit at the Change Makers International (CMI) conference, held at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, sparked considerable discussion on social media.
In response to the controversy, Pastor Kumuyi explained in an online video that the event’s location was the key factor in his decision. He noted that because the conference was taking place in a stadium rather than within the church itself, he felt it was appropriate to allow the clerics to wear their caps. He remarked, “People were questioning why I allowed this, especially seeing someone with a cap. However, since we are in a stadium and not in the church building, I did not see the need to address it.”
Additionally, Kumuyi called on Nigerian youths to engage in dialogue with the Federal Government to foster meaningful socio-economic progress in the country. He made this appeal on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Port Harcourt Airport, where he was present for a six-day event organized by the Change Makers International Initiative (CMII). The CMII, which Kumuyi convenes, is described as a non-religious, non-partisan, and non-denominational movement aimed at promoting positive change and social impact in Nigeria.
