Governor Obaseki discloses why Named Edo Arena After Musician Rema

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has revealed the reason behind naming the Edo Arena after the Benin-born musician Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema. According to Drivetvnews, Rema, famed for his hit “Calm Down,” and Governor Obaseki participated in laying the foundation block for the Edo Arena during a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday in Benin.

The ceremony, which also served as a precursor to Rema’s homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium, saw Rema and Obaseki together at the site. Obaseki noted that Rema, an ambassador for Benin and Edo State, played a significant role in the decision to rename the venue Rema Dome. He emphasized that the Rema Dome would enhance the state’s appeal to visitors and international celebrities, thereby bolstering tourism in Edo State.

On his X handle, Governor Obaseki stated, “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema, join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.”

He further explained that the Rema Dome would offer visitors an opportunity to experience the rich culture of the region and contribute to job creation for the youth. The Governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to attracting investment and promoting tourism in Edo State.
