Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old boy who died in 2021 after allegedly being bullied at Dowen College in Lagos, has passed away. Her death occurred in late November due to complications from intermittent blood pressure-related health issues.
This news comes just over seven months after a Lagos court ruled against the family in April. The court determined that Sylvester’s death was caused by the negligence of his parents and doctor, rather than the alleged bullying.
Sylvester had named five senior students as his attackers before his death, but the Lagos State Government later exonerated the students and employees of Dowen College accused of involvement in his death.
Coroner Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri stated that Sylvester’s health deteriorated due to negligence, and his parents failed to seek medical attention for over 32 hours before his death. Kadiri described Sylvester’s death as “avoidable” and lamented the excruciating pain the boy endured.
