Nigerian social crusader and humanitarian, Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as Verydarkman (VDM), has provided a crucial update on the investigation into the theft of funds from his NGO. The scandal, involving over ₦180 million embezzled from the organization’s account, has deeply unsettled VDM and his supporters.
On Friday, VDM disclosed that ₦160 million had been diverted to an unidentified account, while swift intervention led to the partial recovery of ₦20 million. Measures included issuing a Post No Debit (PND) directive on one of the implicated accounts.
By Sunday, December 29, VDM revealed that persistent efforts had resulted in the recovery of ₦78 million. However, ₦102 million remains unaccounted for and has been traced to Ghana. Authorities in Ghana are actively working to identify those responsible for this bold theft.
A cybersecurity audit of the NGO’s website revealed that hackers from various countries, including Nigeria, the United States, and Kenya, attempted to breach its systems. VDM also raised concerns about possible insider involvement, further complicating the investigation.
The humanitarian, visibly distressed, shared the emotional toll the situation has taken on him, citing sleepless nights and significant stress. Despite these challenges, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who have stood by him during this difficult time.
As the investigation progresses, the incident has sparked discussions about the growing threat of cyberattacks and the difficulties faced by non-profit organizations in protecting their funds and resources.
