A nursing mother, Ifeoluwa Adekolu, tragically lost her life after being struck by a stray bullet fired by a police officer in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The incident occurred at the Oke-Ila Police Station, where the officer, reportedly from another division, fired his weapon in celebration of a colleague’s recent promotion. Unfortunately, the stray bullet hit Mrs. Adekolu, who was standing across the road opposite the station.

Efforts were made to save her as she was rushed to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Adewale Adeniran, confirmed the incident. He stated that the officer responsible had been disarmed and taken into custody.

“The officer involved has been detained and will face a comprehensive investigation in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Act. This is a deeply regrettable and unfortunate incident. The Ekiti State Police Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served,” AIG Adeniran said.
