Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced a compensation package of ₦5 million for each family of the forest rangers recently killed at Old Oyo National Park. The governor made the announcement during a visit to the attack site in Oloka village, Oriire Local Government Area.

In addition to the financial support, Makinde approved scholarships for the children of the deceased rangers, covering their education up to the university level. He also pledged to improve infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of the road connecting Oloka community to Ikoyi-Ile under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, enhanced telecommunication services, boreholes, and solar-powered streetlights.

Makinde emphasized that his administration would sustain joint security operations to ensure the safety of residents. He also plans to request the establishment of a military base in Oloka from authorities in Abuja to further strengthen security. The governor reminded residents that maintaining safety is a shared responsibility, urging them to report suspicious activities promptly.

“On behalf of the government, I assure you that we will take all necessary measures to protect lives and property,” Makinde said. “For the families who lost loved ones, each will receive ₦5 million, and scholarships will be granted to the children of the deceased.”

During the visit, the governor observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased. Earlier, the Special Adviser on Security, CP Fatai Owoseni (retd.), confirmed that three key suspects in the attack had been arrested and were under investigation.

Makinde was accompanied by top government officials, including the Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport Mojeed Mogbonjubola, and service commanders. Traditional rulers and community leaders, including the Soun of Ogbomoso and the Onpetu of Ijeru, were also present.

The governor expressed condolences to the bereaved families and pledged to strengthen security measures in Old Oyo National Park to prevent future incidents.
