United States President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of immediate negotiations with Iran, stating that any attempt at dialogue would now come too late.
In a post shared on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump wrote that Iran’s air defence systems, air force, navy, and leadership structure had been dismantled. He added that although Iranian officials were seeking discussions, he had rejected the move, declaring it was “too late.”
His remarks came just two days after he indicated a willingness to engage in talks, amid ongoing joint military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran. The conflict, which has entered its fourth day, has continued to intensify across the Middle East.
The military campaign reportedly began on February 28, 2026, with coordinated strikes by US and Israeli forces targeting Iranian leadership, missile installations, naval facilities, air defence systems, and command centres.
The strikes led to the deaths of several senior Iranian officials. Iranian state media confirmed on March 1 that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was among those killed and announced a period of national mourning.
Iran has since launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks against US military bases, Israel, and allied Gulf nations. Some of the strikes reportedly caused infrastructure damage in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
The US military has confirmed that six American service members have died since the hostilities began.
Trump described the operation as a necessary action to curb Iran’s ballistic missile programme and nuclear ambitions, calling it the “last best chance” to eliminate threats to the United States and its allies.
