The 2027 vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement, APM, Lawal Daura, has warned individuals planning to manipulate next year’s general elections to abandon such plans.
Daura issued the warning on Tuesday during the inauguration of the National Campaign Management Committee of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation in preparation for the 2027 elections.
He stressed that the elections should be decided by voters rather than through electoral manipulation, warning that those who attempt to rig the process would not escape accountability this time.
The former Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, also pointed to Nigeria’s growing voter population, saying the number of registered voters had surpassed 100 million ahead of the elections.
Daura said political parties should focus on persuading Nigerians through their policies, programmes and the credibility of their candidates instead of seeking shortcuts.
He said the campaign organisation was targeting substantial support from the electorate, describing the task as challenging but achievable.
“For us that are in the political arena, it is something very important. What matters is that we are struggling to ensure we are courting the majority of these voters,” he said.
He added that the political process should be based on convincing voters and allowing them to freely determine their preferred leaders.
