A Nigerian woman has called for DNA paternity testing to be banned, arguing that the practice is contributing to the breakdown of marriages and families.
The woman made the statement in a video shared on X, where she questioned why married men who trust their wives would seek DNA tests to establish the paternity of children born during their marriages.
She argued that children born within a marriage should be accepted by the husband as his, even in situations where a wife may have been unfaithful.
According to her, conducting a DNA test suggests that a man does not trust his wife and raises questions about why he would remain in a marriage where such doubts exist.
She repeatedly called for the practice to be prohibited, claiming that DNA testing was creating tension and damaging families.
The woman also compared contemporary marriages with those of previous generations, noting that DNA testing was not available or commonly used by their forefathers, who generally accepted children born within their homes as their own.
She further argued that infidelity could sometimes be a mistake that a person regrets without disclosing it because of fear of the consequences.
Her comments have generated reactions online, with the debate focusing on paternity, trust, infidelity, marriage and the role of DNA testing in resolving questions about biological relationships.
