Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to step up efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit and potentially harmful products in Nigeria.
Kadiri raised the concern in a recent video shared on her Instagram page, warning that fake or contaminated food, drinks, medicines, cosmetics and household products could pose serious health risks to Nigerians.
The actress said the continued production and consumption of substandard products was not merely a business issue but a threat to public health and human lives.
She expressed particular concern about children and other vulnerable people who could suffer serious health consequences from consuming unsafe products.
Kadiri also shared a personal experience involving garlic she had bought and blended, saying its colour changed shortly after she briefly left it.
She said such experiences had increased her concerns about the safety of products sold to consumers, particularly packaged drinks intended for children.
The actress therefore appealed to NAFDAC to pay closer attention to products already in circulation and intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts.
Kadiri stressed that the health and safety of Nigerians should remain a priority, noting that many people were reportedly falling ill without getting better.
