A Nigerian man identified as Abdul Rasheed has been arrested in the United States after allegedly calling 911 and pretending to be ill in an attempt to avoid paying a $63 meal bill at a restaurant.
Rasheed reportedly admitted that he tried to evade payment after eating at a Red Lobster restaurant in Douglas County, Georgia.
According to a report by the New York Post, authorities arrested him on Thursday and booked him into the Douglas County Jail.
He is facing allegations of theft of services and unlawful conduct in connection with the 911 call. He was reportedly being held on a $3,000 bond.
Authorities said Rasheed had finished the $63 meal before allegedly deciding not to pay the bill. He subsequently contacted emergency services and claimed he was sick while requesting medical assistance.
However, emergency responders reportedly found him in good health when they arrived at his home and determined that he was unwilling to settle the restaurant bill.
Instead of being taken to a hospital, Rasheed was arrested and transported to the Douglas County Jail.
