A mother in Osun State, Mrs Alaba Oyebamiji, has appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to facilitate the release of the remains of her two sons, who were allegedly killed during a security operation in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area.
Drivetvnews gathered that the appeal came one year after the incident, which occurred on September 30, 2025. Ismaila and Sefiu Oyebamiji were among four people reportedly killed during the operation, while the other victims were identified as Abiola Olutayo and another Sefiu Oyebamiji.
The victims were allegedly killed when operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun, entered the community following an incident whose circumstances remain disputed.
According to the victims’ families, the remains have yet to be released, preventing them from carrying out burial rites and bringing closure to the incident.
Oyebamiji said the prolonged wait had deepened her grief and affected her ability to return to normal life. She appealed to the relevant authorities to intervene and release the remains to the families.
She disclosed that one of her sons, Ismail, was killed while his wife was pregnant, leaving the widow and child in her care.
The traditional ruler of Akinlalu, Oba Israel Aborisade, said community leaders had made several attempts to resolve the matter, including meetings with the state government and police authorities.
According to the monarch, the authorities repeatedly asked the community to exercise patience without providing a definite timeline for the release of the remains.
He said the families had indicated that they were not seeking to pursue the matter in court and urged the government to consider their request and allow them to bury their relatives.
Akinlalu youth leader, Musibau Adeboye, said the community’s immediate concern was the release of the remains rather than compensation for the families.
Adeboye said the families had already received compensation but were still seeking government intervention to enable them to lay their loved ones to rest.
As the first anniversary of the incident passes, the affected families and community leaders are calling for clarity from the authorities and the release of the remains so that the victims can be buried according to the wishes of their families.
