A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has welcomed the reported arrest of Mahmoud Adam, whom he alleged is linked to attacks against Christian communities in Nigeria.
Moore, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, made the remarks in a post on X, crediting the Nigerian authorities for the reported arrest and linking the development to ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
The lawmaker said the reported arrest was significant for Christians in Nigeria and described it as an indication that the US-Nigeria security partnership was producing results.
Moore also commended the Nigerian government for the operation, while praising the US Congress and the administration of President Donald Trump for their efforts concerning attacks against Christians.
He called for continued efforts to protect Christians affected by insecurity.
Adam was reportedly arrested in the early hours of September 12 at his residence in Plateau State, where he was described in reports as a prominent Fulani community leader.
Information about the arrest emerged publicly in October alongside photographs reportedly showing Adam in detention.
However, the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the allegations against him have not been fully clarified by the relevant authorities. While some reports identify Adam as a community leader, other accounts have alleged links between him and violent groups.
The reported arrest comes amid continued attention in the United States to insecurity and attacks affecting Christian communities in Nigeria.
Nigeria and the United States have maintained security cooperation in areas including counterterrorism and efforts to address other security challenges.
