Suspected bandits have killed a forest guard during an attack on Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The victim, identified simply as Samuel, was reportedly shot dead after forest guards moved into the area based on intelligence reports warning of a possible invasion by armed men.
Sources said the operatives were attempting to prevent the planned assault when the attackers ambushed them, leading to a violent confrontation in which Samuel was killed.
Residents of the community said the gunmen, who were heavily armed, later set more than five motorcycles on fire before fleeing the area.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
The attack came shortly after reports emerged that Koro community was under threat, with residents raising alarm over growing insecurity in the area.
Koro shares a boundary with Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, increasing fear among neighbouring communities about the spread of bandit activities.
Local leaders have urged residents to stay away from the affected area and remain vigilant as security developments continue to unfold.
