The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Lukman Sanni, over the alleged illegal transportation of firearms and recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and an object suspected to be a charm.
Drivetvnews gathered that the suspect was arrested on October 27, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation at Iyana Isashi, Lagos State.
According to the police, the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to prevent the illegal possession of firearms, arms trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the development in a statement, confirming that the recovered items included a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and an object suspected to be a charm.
“Preliminary investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession and intended delivery of the recovered firearm and ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody and is providing useful information to aid the investigation,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling illegal firearms possession, arms trafficking, cultism and other criminal activities.
Fatai also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police, noting that credible information from members of the public was important for maintaining peace and security.
The arrest comes amid efforts by the police to prevent the circulation of illegal firearms and ammunition that could be used to commit violent crimes.
However, the police have not disclosed the source of the recovered weapon and cartridges or identified the person who was allegedly meant to receive them.
