Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko has accused veteran actor Prince Jide Kosoko of betrayal, insisting he remains the legitimate Oloja-elect of Lagos despite the controversy surrounding the traditional title.

In an interview, Abiola explained that he belongs to the seventh branch of the Kosoko royal dynasty and traced his lineage to establish his eligibility under the chieftaincy declaration signed into law in 1983 by former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande.

He said the declaration, which followed a detailed chieftaincy inquiry in 1980, recognised nine ruling houses within the Kosoko family and laid the legal foundation for the Oloja of Lagos stool.

Abiola described the Oloja title as an ancient position that dates back over 200 years, noting that King Kosoko himself once held the title before becoming Oba of Lagos. He explained that the title was originally known as Oloja of Ereko and carried significant authority over trade, markets, and commerce in Lagos during the 1830s.

According to him, after King Kosoko’s death in 1872, the title remained vacant until 1939 when Oteniya, Kosoko’s last child, became Oloja. Later, Aminu Muse Kosoko took over in the 1960s, but the stool again became vacant after his death until succession discussions resumed in the early 2000s.

Abiola argued that based on the rotational arrangement among the ruling branches, it is now the turn of the Olojo branch, which he represents, to produce the next Oloja.

He stated that he and Jide Kosoko had enjoyed a close relationship and often discussed family matters, but said he felt betrayed after learning that Jide was allegedly being positioned for the title without proper communication.

Abiola claimed he first heard rumours in November 2025 and confronted Jide Kosoko several times, but Jide allegedly denied any involvement. He said the matter later escalated when he heard that an announcement was made at the palace, triggering outrage among some family members.

He also alleged that violence broke out at the family secretariat, including attacks and seizure of keys by individuals loyal to Jide Kosoko. Following the incident, Abiola said he removed valuable museum items and historical documents he personally funded and kept at the palace, fearing they would be taken over.

Abiola maintained that he remains the rightful Oloja-elect of Lagos and confirmed that the dispute has now reached the courts, with his family also petitioning the Lagos State Government.

He expressed hope that the judiciary would handle the matter fairly and insisted he would abide by whatever judgment is delivered.

Meanwhile, when contacted for a response, Prince Jide Kosoko reportedly declined to speak, saying his family representative would address the issue publicly.
