Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has summoned heads of security agencies in the state for an emergency meeting following recent security breaches and killings allegedly linked to rival cult groups.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, according to the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Samuel Ojo.
Ojo said the meeting would focus on addressing the recent violence and strengthening security measures across the state.
He said Adeleke was concerned about the killings allegedly involving members of rival cult groups and would use the meeting to develop measures aimed at preventing further attacks.
“We are holding a security meeting on Wednesday, by the special grace of God, to reassure our people and put our security agencies on their toes,” Ojo said.
The governor’s aide said the meeting would also examine ways to secure forests across Osun and prevent criminals from using them as hideouts.
Ojo warned individuals involved in criminal activities against using forest areas as shelters, stressing that the government would not tolerate such activities.
He also said the authorities would address the recent wave of killings allegedly connected to rival cult groups and other violent crimes.
“We need to meet and discuss how to stop these killings by cult groups or any other violent crimes hiding under that canopy,” he said.
Ojo appealed to those involved in violence to stop their activities, saying such incidents could damage the image and security of Osun State.
Two separate attacks involving suspected rival cult groups reportedly occurred in Osogbo between Friday and Sunday, leaving two people dead and about five others injured.
Following the incidents, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, ordered tactical teams to raid suspected criminal hideouts in Osogbo as security agencies intensified efforts to prevent further violence.
