Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have apprehended 15 suspects during a crackdown on alleged criminal hideouts in Ozalla community, Nkanu West Local Government Area.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of February 16, 2026, following intelligence reports pointing to illegal activities around the Four Corners area of Ozalla.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said officers attached to the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad executed the raid based on credible information.

According to him, the team stormed identified hotspots within the community, leading to the arrest of 15 individuals, comprising nine men and six women.

Items recovered during the operation included two polythene bags containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. A further search of the area also led to the discovery of a locally made pistol loaded with a live cartridge.

The police spokesperson stated that all suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their involvement in criminal activities. He explained that those found innocent would be released, while anyone linked to unlawful acts would be prosecuted in line with the law.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed officers to intensify efforts to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and reliable information that could aid crime prevention and investigation.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, warning individuals engaged in criminal activities to desist or face legal consequences.
