The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six men accused of posing as pastors and staging fake miracles to defraud residents of Idanre in Idanre Local Government Area.
The suspects — identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola — were apprehended during an intelligence-driven operation targeting a suspected fraud network operating within Idanre and nearby communities.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Kazeem, the arrests were carried out on February 16, 2026, by tactical operatives working alongside Community Safety Officers.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly presented themselves as religious leaders and organised staged miracle sessions to win the trust of unsuspecting victims. They reportedly claimed to offer divine solutions to financial difficulties, health concerns, and other personal challenges, collecting money and valuables under false pretences.
Investigators further revealed that the group allegedly operated in a coordinated manner, with members assigned specific roles to enhance their credibility and sustain the deception.
The police said efforts are ongoing to identify the total number of victims, determine the financial extent of the alleged fraud, and track down any additional accomplices who may still be at large.
All six suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and warned against individuals who exploit religion or claims of supernatural powers as a cover for criminal activities.
