Iran has strongly condemned the United States after an Iranian naval vessel was sunk near Sri Lanka, with Tehran describing the incident as a serious act of aggression.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, accused Washington of committing a grave violation by attacking the ship far from Iranian territory.
In a message shared on X, Araghchi said the United States carried out what he called an “atrocity at sea,” noting that the Iranian frigate Dena was operating roughly 2,000 miles from Iran’s coastline when it was struck.
He stated that the vessel was sailing in international waters and was participating in naval activities with the Indian Navy. According to him, the ship had nearly 130 sailors on board at the time of the attack.
Araghchi also stressed that the strike was carried out without warning, describing it as a dangerous action that could worsen tensions in the region.
He warned that the United States would ultimately face the consequences of what he described as a dangerous precedent set by the attack.
“Mark my words,” he wrote, “the United States will come to bitterly regret the precedent it has created.”
