A video circulating online shows a group of women confronting officials from an electricity distribution company who arrived in their area to disconnect power supply despite prolonged outages.
In the footage, which gained attention on Friday, the women protested in Yoruba, accusing the company of failing to provide electricity for about three months while still attempting to cut off their connection.
They questioned the move, saying they had endured months without power and were now being threatened with disconnection. According to them, the situation had forced many residents to sleep outdoors due to the lack of electricity.
To stop the action, the women surrounded the ladder brought by the officials, preventing them from accessing the pole. At one point, tensions rose when an official tried to push one of the women aside, prompting others to step in and resist.
In another clip, a visibly angry man also challenged the officials, questioning why they would disconnect electricity when there had been no supply and residents were already struggling.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians praising the women for standing up against what they described as unfair treatment.
The development comes amid ongoing electricity challenges across Nigeria. Recently, the Minister of Power acknowledged the widespread outages and apologised to citizens, assuring that efforts were underway to improve supply in the coming weeks.
