Suspected gunmen carried out fresh attacks in Plateau State on Wednesday night, leaving two people dead and two others injured.
The incident occurred in Heipang community, where attackers reportedly invaded the Ban area around 11 p.m. and opened fire on residents. Three individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital. One of the victims, a woman, later died from her injuries, while the others are receiving treatment.
The attack caused widespread panic, particularly among students of Plateau State Polytechnic, many of whom live off-campus. A student, Nanchip Dube, said the sound of gunfire created fear and confusion within the school community.
In a separate incident earlier the same day in Riyom Local Government Area, a 27-year-old man identified as Amos Monday was killed. He was reportedly ambushed alongside other youths while travelling between villages in the area.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed both attacks and urged residents in affected communities and nearby areas to remain alert and cautious.
Efforts to get an official response from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
