Police in Bauchi State have arrested two young men over the alleged abduction and killing of a nine-year-old boy, Barhama Abubakar.
The suspects, Yahaya Zubairu and Babangida Muhammad, both aged 20, are said to be relatives of the victim and lived in the same compound with him. Their arrest was confirmed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib.
According to the police, the child was abducted on March 21, 2026, after which a ransom of N1 million was demanded from his family. Following investigations, officers apprehended the suspects and later recovered the victim’s body. A medical examination confirmed that the boy had died.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects allegedly planned the crime and killed the child by restraining him, which resulted in his death. One of the suspects reportedly lured the boy under the pretense of sending him on an errand, directing him to a primary school where he was subsequently taken away.
Police said the suspects have confessed, claiming they targeted the boy because they believed his father was financially well-off.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has urged parents and guardians to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities in their communities.
Authorities added that investigations are ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action. The command also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety.
