President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his planned visit to Ogun State in order to travel to Jos, Plateau State, following recent violent attacks that claimed at least 27 lives.

The decision came after a meeting with Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, where the governor briefed him on the worsening security situation. The President is expected to personally sympathise with victims and residents affected by the killings in the Angwan Rukuba area.

In response to the crisis, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel, including Police Mobile Force units and specialised tactical teams, to strengthen security operations across the state.

After his visit to Plateau, Tinubu is scheduled to travel to Lagos for the Easter period before proceeding to Ogun State, where he will inaugurate key infrastructure projects, including the Gateway International Cargo Airport and new aviation assets. He is also expected to commission several projects in Lagos and later visit Bayelsa State.

Earlier, the President had condemned the attacks in Plateau and parts of Kaduna State, describing them as senseless acts of violence that would not go unpunished.

Governor Mutfwang, while addressing journalists, confirmed that security agencies had yet to apprehend the perpetrators, making it difficult to determine their motives. He noted that the situation involved complex factors and required thorough investigation.

The governor also disclosed that tensions remained high in Jos, with reports of looting and unrest shortly after the curfew imposed in affected areas was partially relaxed. Security operatives, however, were able to restore calm.

As part of efforts to stabilise the situation, authorities have intensified security presence across vulnerable areas, while residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, the University of Jos ordered the evacuation of students from its hostels due to safety concerns, following disturbances in areas surrounding the campus.

Additional measures have also been introduced in nearby communities, including fresh curfews and increased patrols, as authorities work to prevent further violence and restore normalcy.
