A 400-level student from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has been apprehended by the police for reportedly possessing illegal firearms. The arrest, made on Saturday following a tip-off by a local vigilance group, revealed that the suspect had unlawfully obtained a locally-made gun, a locally-made pistol, and 9mm live ammunition.According to Bauchi State Police spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakil, the detained student confessed to the offense, asserting that the weapons belonged to another individual previously arrested for possessing a locally made pistol in 2021. In a separate incident, a 28-year-old business café operator in a Bauchi suburb was also arrested for allegedly defrauding ATBU students of N663,000, meant for their school registration fees.Wakil disclosed that a preliminary investigation uncovered the operator’s dishonest and fraudulent activities, wherein he deceitfully collected the money and subsequently provided fake registration slips to the victims. The suspect has admitted to issuing counterfeit registration slips to several ATBU students. Wakil assured that both suspects would face legal action after thorough investigations.
