Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi, widely recognised for his role in the classic Yoruba film Owo Blow, has made a return to the movie industry after a period away from the spotlight during which he reportedly worked as a commercial driver in Lagos.
Drivetvnews report that his comeback was revealed by fellow actor Adeniyi Johnson, who shared a photo of Afolabi on a movie set via Instagram, indicating that the veteran actor is back in active production.
Johnson disclosed that Afolabi is currently involved in a new project titled Ileke, produced by Seyi Edun and directed by Adebayo Tijani. He also noted that the actor is now available for movie roles both within and outside Lagos.
Afolabi’s return follows the circulation of a viral video that showed him operating around a commercial minibus in Lagos, where he appeared to be assisting passengers and calling out destinations—activities typical of public transport workers. The video sparked concern among fans, many of whom commented on his changed appearance.
In an earlier discussion with actor Kunle Afod in 2025, Afolabi reportedly spoke about personal and financial struggles, including the loss of his wife, which affected his career. He explained that taking up commercial driving was a practical means of livelihood while awaiting acting opportunities.
The actor, who rose to fame in the 1990s and early 2000s Yoruba film scene, has featured in several productions over the years, including Luwo Gbagida (2025), The Lost Heir (2018), and The Herbert Macaulay Affair (2019).
However, like many of his contemporaries, his presence in mainstream productions declined as the industry evolved with new faces and changing production styles. His last known appearance before this return was in the Africa Magic series Itura in 2023.
His reappearance on set has been welcomed by fans and colleagues, many of whom expressed relief and excitement following news of his return to acting.
