Armed attackers have shot dead a cleric, Emmanuel Ezeoikwe, in Zinal village located in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Tuesday at the victim’s residence.
Confirming the development, the Adamawa State Police Command said it received a report of the attack around 6:30 a.m. According to the police, the assailants had invaded the community shortly after midnight and opened fire on the victim.
Officers who responded to the report found the pastor unresponsive and rushed him to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a doctor. His remains were subsequently deposited in a morgue for further examination.
Investigators also recovered three empty AK-47 shell casings from the scene.
The police said a full investigation has been launched into the killing, with the Commissioner of Police ordering tactical teams to track down those responsible.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and assist security agencies with any useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
