Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused suspected thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress of carrying out fresh attacks on public properties in Osogbo, Osun State, warning that residents may resort to self-help if security agencies fail to act.
Drivetvnews gathered In statements issued on Monday through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor directed the Osun State Police Command to immediately arrest those allegedly involved in the attacks.
Adeleke alleged that the violence had escalated from billboard destruction to attacks on government infrastructure across the state capital.
“In the wake of fresh attacks on Accord and public properties across Osogbo, Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the state police command to arrest documented thugs of the APC before the public resort to self-help,” the statement read.
The governor accused the police of allegedly shielding known political thugs despite repeated incidents of violence and vandalism.
He specifically called for the arrest of a man identified as Asiri Eniba and members of his group, alleging that they moved around in vehicles and motorcycles while shooting sporadically.
“I hereby direct the Commissioner of Police to immediately effect the arrest of Asiri Eniba and his gangs who are terrorising the state,” Adeleke stated.
He warned that the attacks posed a threat to public peace and government facilities, urging security agencies to prevent further escalation.
“These political criminals are now attacking public properties. Security agencies should prevent a scenario in which untamed thugs will set state secretariat and other government buildings on fire,” he said.
The governor also revealed that he had summoned an emergency Security Council meeting to discuss the situation and develop strategies to prevent further violence.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had not officially responded to the allegations.
