Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that suspected Boko Haram members were arrested in Ilorin, describing the information as false and capable of causing panic among residents.
Drivetvnews gathered In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the police said no Boko Haram suspect was arrested anywhere in Kwara State.
According to the police, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) only intercepted a truck carrying Fulani travellers during a routine intelligence-led surveillance operation within Ilorin on Tuesday night.
The command explained that the passengers and vehicle were thoroughly searched and profiled in line with security procedures.
Police authorities stated that no weapons, incriminating items, or security threats were discovered during the screening exercise.
The travellers reportedly identified themselves as people heading to Jigawa State, after which their details were documented and they were escorted out of the metropolis to continue their journey.
The police warned residents against spreading unverified reports capable of creating unnecessary fear or tension in the state.
Meanwhile, the command confirmed a separate operation that led to the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and vandals along the Asa Dam/Dangote Road area of Ilorin.
According to the police, the suspects were linked to vandalising government-installed solar lights and other robbery-related activities.
Recovered items reportedly included two locally made pistols, pliers, and suspected hard drugs.
Adekimi Ojo commended the intelligence-led operations of the VCRU and assured residents that the command would continue efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.
