Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has met with families of pupils, teachers, and other residents abducted during recent attacks in Oriire Local Government Area, assuring them that efforts are being intensified to secure the victims’ safe return.

The meeting, which took place at the open field of Ahoro Esiele LA Basic School, brought together affected families, community leaders, and residents. The governor appealed for patience, cooperation, and understanding as security agencies continue rescue operations.

Makinde acknowledged the pain and uncertainty facing the families, noting that no words could fully ease their suffering. He, however, pledged that his administration would do everything possible to ensure the abductees regain their freedom.

According to the governor, the state government remains fully committed to the rescue mission and will not relent until the victims are safely reunited with their loved ones.

He revealed that since the incident occurred, he has been holding security meetings twice daily and maintaining close collaboration with security agencies. He also disclosed that nearly 200 operatives of the Western Security Network, Amotekun Corps, have lost their lives over the years while combating security threats across the state.

Makinde described the actions of the abductors as cruel, inhumane, and unacceptable, stressing that no grievance could justify the suffering inflicted on innocent children, teachers, and community members.

During the meeting, relatives of the abductees made emotional appeals to the governor. Among them was Professor Wole Alamu, whose wife, a school principal, remains in captivity. Others included Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo, whose daughter-in-law and four grandchildren were abducted, as well as Mr. Aliu Saidi, a relative of one of the victims.

The family members urged the governor to deploy every available resource toward securing the immediate release of their loved ones.

Following the public gathering, Governor Makinde held a private session with affected families to discuss ongoing rescue efforts and reassure them of the government’s commitment to bringing the victims home safely.
