The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is currently fighting for his life after suspected gunmen attacked him and his associates in Osogbo.

Drivetvnews gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday night around the Community Bank area of the MDS axis in Osogbo, causing panic among residents as heavily armed attackers reportedly opened fire on Ajibola’s vehicle.

According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen pursued a blue Toyota Corolla conveying the politician and his friends before unleashing multiple gunshots on the vehicle in what appeared to be a coordinated attack.

Ajibola reportedly sustained severe injuries during the shooting and was rushed to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he is receiving treatment in critical condition.

One of the occupants of the vehicle said they were returning from the MDS area when armed men suddenly began chasing them and firing repeatedly at their car.

The survivor explained that they managed to escape to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters, where they sought protection before the attackers fled the scene.

After reporting the incident to the police, the injured politician was immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Reacting to the attack, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the incident and urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Alimi described the attack as unfortunate and stated that available indications suggested possible political undertones, stressing the need for a professional and impartial investigation.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the incident, while efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson proved unsuccessful.

The shooting has further heightened concerns about political violence and insecurity in Osun State ahead of future political activities.
