The Oyo State Police Command has denied reports claiming that one of the pupils abducted during the attack on schools in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, died while in captivity.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the report as false, misleading, and designed to create fear among residents.

According to the police, neither the command nor any security agency involved in the rescue operation has confirmed the death of any abducted child. The command accused those behind the report of deliberately spreading misinformation to stir public anxiety and undermine ongoing security efforts.

The police noted that the publication relied on unverified claims and emotional narratives capable of causing panic among affected families and the wider public. Authorities warned that such reports could interfere with rescue operations and indirectly serve the interests of criminal groups.

The command assured residents that security agencies are continuing efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers, stressing that operations are being handled professionally and with necessary confidentiality.

The police also cautioned bloggers, social media users, content creators, and media organisations against sharing unverified security-related information. They urged journalists and online publishers to uphold professional standards and verify facts before publication.

Residents were advised to disregard the report and rely only on official updates from the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies. The command reiterated its commitment to public safety and promised to provide verified information as developments occur.
