Two lives were abruptly cut short, and four others faced varying degrees of injury in a devastating car crash that unfolded on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The grim incident, which transpired at the Ibereko section of the expressway around 5:46 am, involved a Toyota Camry bearing the dealer registration number 01-6897DLA. The vehicle, carrying seven individuals – four males and three females, was en route from a popular hotel when tragedy struck. The unfortunate sequence of events led to the Toyota Camry somersaulting multiple times on the old Badagry expressway, ultimately coming to rest on the opposite side. In the aftermath, two lives were lost, while four others grappled with various degrees of injuries. Remarkably, one individual emerged unscathed.Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Unit Commander in Badagry, Mr Williams Manga, promptly confirmed the incident to the media. He stated that their personnel received an alert around 6:12 am, reaching the accident scene at precisely 6:20 am. The injured were swiftly transported to the General Hospital in Badagry for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were placed in the hospital’s mortuary.Manga identified excessive speeding as the probable cause of the accident, underscoring the urgency for motorists to adhere to speed limits. Despite continuous sensitization programs aimed at promoting road safety, the tragic occurrence highlights the persistent challenge of some individuals disregarding these warnings. In response to the recurrent menace of excessive speeding, Manga reiterated the importance of responsible driving practices. He urged motorists to avoid reckless speeds, adhere to speed limits, and conduct routine vehicle checks to detect and address potential faults before embarking on journeys. The message emphasizes that such precautions are crucial in minimizing accidents on our roads, serving as a stark reminder of the shared responsibility in ensuring road safety.
