President Bola Tinubu has criticised African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of overseeing the privatisation of government assets while leaving pension obligations unsettled during his time as Vice President.
Drivetvnews gathered that Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday while receiving a delegation of Northeast stakeholders who visited to congratulate him on re-nominating Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Speaking during the meeting, the President said his administration is currently addressing outstanding pension liabilities inherited from previous administrations.
According to Tinubu, Nigerians desire stability and improved social welfare, adding that pensioners deserve to receive their benefits without delay.
He alleged that while government investments in public enterprises were privatised during Atiku’s tenure as Vice President, pension obligations were neglected, leaving subsequent administrations to resolve the backlog.
Tinubu stated that his government is clearing the outstanding pensions but stressed that he would rather focus on solving problems than dwell on past administrations.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, democratic stability, and economic progress, assuring Nigerians that his administration would continue working to improve the country’s welfare and development.
