Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritise solving Nigeria’s pressing problems rather than concentrating on political rivals ahead of the 2027 general election.

Drivetvnews gathered that In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said Tinubu’s greatest challenge is not the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any opposition party but the performance of his administration over the last three years.

The former vice president was reacting to Tinubu’s comments during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa, where the President declared he was ready to “wrestle” his political opponents in the 2027 election.

According to Atiku, the President’s attention should instead be directed at addressing the economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and rising cost of living confronting Nigerians.

He urged Tinubu to focus on curbing inflation, reducing hunger, improving security, stabilising the naira and restoring public confidence in government.

“He should wrestle with millions of Nigerians who now skip meals because food has become a luxury. He should also wrestle with the insecurity that has turned farming communities into graveyards and highways into hunting grounds for criminals,” Atiku said.

He argued that democracy is built on accountability and performance, stressing that leaders earn re-election through effective governance rather than political rhetoric.

Atiku added that Nigerians would not be entering a wrestling ring in 2027 but polling units, where they would assess the records of those seeking public office.

“The Nigerian people are not looking for a wrestler. They are looking for a leader. History will not remember who shouted the loudest; it will remember who governed the best,” he stated.
