Veteran Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi Oke has explained that any decision by her to publicly support or campaign for a politician would be motivated by financial considerations rather than genuine political loyalty.
Drivetvnews gathered that the actress made the remarks during an appearance on the digital talk show Africa A-List, where she addressed how the public should interpret her possible involvement in political campaigns.
In a video from the programme that has circulated on social media, Ronke Oshodi urged her fans not to attack or misunderstand her if they see her standing alongside a political candidate.
She explained that such an appearance would simply mean she was seeking an opportunity to earn money and meet her financial responsibilities.
The actress said, “My people, if you ever see me standing behind a politician, just know Ronke wants to eat. She is looking for something to put food on her table. Try to understand and don’t drag me.”
Her comments have generated reactions online, particularly amid the growing involvement of Nigerian entertainers and other public figures in political campaigns and endorsements.
Celebrities are often approached by political candidates and parties to participate in rallies, campaigns and promotional activities, with such engagements sometimes attracting criticism from members of the public who expect entertainers to publicly align themselves with political causes they genuinely support.
Ronke Oshodi’s remarks, however, suggest that financial survival can also influence such decisions, particularly within an entertainment industry facing significant economic pressures.
