In a tragic incident at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, a 21-year-old final year student, Olubodun Sanni, has admitted to fatally stabbing 20-year-old fellow student, Adekunle Ifeoluwa, over her iPhone XR.The victim, Adebisi, a 300-level economics student, resided off-campus with her assailant, who was attracted to her phone and devised a plan to befriend her, according to police sources.Sanni confessed to approaching Ifeoluwa to transfer files from her phone to his iPad. However, when she declined to allow him into her room due to low battery, he left, promising to return later with his power bank to charge her phone.Returning late, Sanni gained entry to her room, where he attacked her, stabbing her in the chest before stealing her phone, destroying her SIM card, and replacing it with his own. He then concealed the phone in an unfinished building near the hostel.Police investigation revealed that the active SIM card led them to Sanni’s mother, who was subsequently arrested and led detectives to her son’s location.The state Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, disclosed that modern technology aided in tracing the stolen phone, leading to Sanni’s arrest, who, alongside other criminals, was paraded before the public in Akure.
