Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem has died following a battle with breast cancer, the Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has announced.
Her death was announced on Tuesday by her colleague and TAMPAN Ogun State Governor, Owolabi Ajasa, through a statement shared on social media.
Kareem had previously appealed for financial assistance and prayers while undergoing treatment for the disease. She revealed that her family had spent significant resources on her treatment and that support from colleagues and the association was also no longer sufficient.
In a statement signed by TAMPAN Ogun State Public Relations Officer, Femi Solaja, the association expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed financially or offered prayers and encouragement during Kareem’s illness.
The association also mourned her death, describing it as a painful loss to her family, colleagues, fans and the Yoruba film industry.
TAMPAN said that despite the efforts made to support her treatment, Kareem had passed away, while praying for strength for her loved ones and eternal rest for the actress.
Her death comes shortly after the Yoruba film industry mourned veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who also died following a battle with cancer.
