The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four individuals for allegedly impersonating army officers in various parts of Lagos on February 19, 2024.According to exclusive information obtained by Drivetvnews from a police source, the quartet identified as Ben Okafor, Darlington Iheanacho, Jonathan Yahaya, and Mohammed Umar were captured following sting operations conducted across the state.Okafor and Iheanacho were reportedly arrested around 10:30pm on Monday at Aina Street. Okafor, claiming to be a corporal in the Nigerian Army, was found with a jackknife during a scuffle with another individual known as Oludotun.Upon arrival at the scene, police officers discovered a fake Nigerian Army identity card bearing the name Corporal Geoffrey Emmanuel, along with a jackknife and pepper spray in possession of Okafor and Iheanacho.Similarly, Yahaya and Umar were apprehended a few hours later for wearing Nigerian Army uniforms, including black combat boots and camouflage trousers. Interrogation revealed that they were unable to disclose their real identities or explain how they obtained the uniforms. The suspects were subsequently taken into custody and are expected to face charges once investigations into their activities are concluded, confirmed Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, in a telephone interview. This incident echoes a similar case reported in January by the Nasarawa State Police Command, where a fake soldier was arrested for defrauding members of the public under the guise of securing employment in the Nigerian Army. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had attempted to join the military but failed, resorting to purchasing a uniform to carry out his fraudulent activities.
