Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has said he began casting out demons when he was about 17 or 18 years old, linking his early religious experience to his long-standing concern about insecurity and cultism.
Okpebholo made the statement during a Sunday worship service at The VOTAGE Church, also known as The Voice of This Age, at the WINLOS Centre in Benin City.
His remarks later resurfaced online and attracted attention on social media.
Speaking during the service, the governor recalled his involvement in religious activities as a teenager, saying his experience shaped his perspective on issues affecting young people, particularly cultism and insecurity.
Okpebholo said his opposition to cultism was not a recent development, noting that he had been involved in efforts to confront what he described as spiritual and social challenges from an early age.
The VOTAGE Church confirmed the governor’s presence at the service in a social media post, stating that the gathering included prayers for the peace, progress and prosperity of Edo State.
Okpebholo also confirmed his attendance, saying he first worshipped at Living Faith Church on Sapele Road before proceeding to The VOTAGE Church in Benin City.
According to the governor, prayers were offered for the continued peace and protection of Edo State, wisdom and strength for its leaders, as well as blessings for residents and their families.
