Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the rising cost of living and persistent insecurity in Nigeria, accusing his administration of making life increasingly difficult for citizens.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said many Nigerian families were struggling to afford basic necessities, while others continued to live in fear of kidnappings and violent attacks.
He made the remarks in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, urging registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.
“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” Atiku wrote.
The former vice president lamented that many parents were struggling to provide food for their children, while pensioners faced difficult choices between purchasing food and paying for medication.
He also expressed concern about the financial challenges confronting young Nigerians, noting that despite their hard work, many could barely cope with rising transport fares, rent and other essential expenses.
On security, Atiku said families across the country were increasingly worried about the safety of their loved ones amid persistent reports of kidnappings and attacks.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” he said.
The ADC chieftain urged eligible voters to collect and protect their PVCs, describing them as important tools for expressing their choices and demanding political change through the ballot.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he stated.
Atiku called on Nigerians across generations to unite in pursuing a country where families could live with dignity, security and hope.
