The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out eight criminal charges filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Drivetvnews gathered that Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charges on Monday following an application by the Federal Government, which said Adeyemi would be transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for a fresh arraignment.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, presented the application, explaining that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and charges initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police and identified certain legal issues.
Oyedepo told the court that some of the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while operating the purported agency involved offences that could be prosecuted by the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
He further informed the court that a new charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and assured the judge that Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh as soon as possible.
The prosecution subsequently requested that the existing charges be struck out in accordance with the law.
Adeyemi’s counsel, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. Justice Umar consequently granted the request and struck out the charges.
Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants identified only as Femi and Anu, whose whereabouts remain unknown. The defendants faced allegations of conspiracy and forgery.
The case was filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation under suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025.
The striking out of the charges followed the Federal Government’s decision to pursue the case before the FCT High Court. It does not, in itself, amount to an acquittal on the allegations.
