Retired police officers, their wives and children on Wednesday staged a protest at the National Assembly, demanding an immediate withdrawal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The protesters called on President Bola Tinubu to approve their proposed bill, chanting, “President Tinubu, sign our bill,” as captured in a video circulating online.
Children also participated in the demonstration, carrying placards to support the retirees’ demands.
The protest came a day after retired military personnel barricaded the entrance to the Military Pensions Board office in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, over their dissatisfaction with the formula used to adjust their pensions.
During the earlier demonstration, the retired military officers blocked access to the premises with canopies and chairs, while armed soldiers prevented them from entering the office.
