The Rivers State Police Command announced on Thursday the arrest of Michael Chidozie, accused of assaulting and strangling his wife, Mrs. Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie, a mother of three, in their Mile 4 residence near Port Harcourt. Mrs. Chidozie, from Delta State, reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Their three sons, aged 10, seven, and five, were left without their mother.
According to an anonymous source, Mr. Chidozie called his late wife’s brother for help, claiming an emergency at home, but fled before his brother-in-law arrived. Upon arrival, the brother found Mrs. Chidozie lifeless and raised an alarm. Investigations revealed financial issues as a recurring marital problem, with Mr. Chidozie confiding in close friends about the matter.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Agip Police Division in Mile 4 apprehended Mr. Chidozie on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the arrest, stating that Mr. Chidozie is undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt.
The victim’s body has been placed in the mortuary, pending an autopsy agreed upon by the police and the family as part of the ongoing investigation.
